The Fierce Female’s Guide To College Life and Beyond Is A Game Changer For Young Women

book cover

Thinking back to over a decade ago, I can remember riding an emotional rollercoaster post high school graduation.  It was time for me to leave the comfort of my small hometown to begin a new life as a Freshman at Grambling State University.  When it’s your time to grow up, there’s no looking back and there’s not much room for error.  Like many of us, I received parting advice from my mentors, but I could have avoided many of my life’s pitfalls if someone had just kept it 100% real with me from the start.  The book, “The Fierce Female’s Guide to College Life and Beyond” is a game changer.  It resonates with me because it was written by my fellow Grambling State University alumna, C.A.C.H.

The Fierce Female’s Guide to College Life and Beyond gives real-life insight on college life and it also extends to help young women create a roadmap that will help them build purposeful lives afterward.   She submits to her own transparency to share stories from her time of matriculation by revealing lessons that young women simply cannot learn in a textbook.

The book touches on prayer, knowing when to ask for help, converting mistakes into lessons learned, being punctual, present and prepared, building healthy relationships, embracing individuality, setting goals, effective communication, budgeting, and overall health.

Christy-Ann C. Hamlin “C.A.C.H.” a published writer, author, and motivational speaker from Grambling, Louisiana.  She holds a BS in Computer Information Systems and an MBA from Webster University. Although writing is her true passion, mentorship is her purpose. She is committed to helping others uncover and reach extraordinary goals.  According to C.A.C.H, the undergraduate years shape and mold individuals into the people (mothers, executives, entrepreneurs) that they will become.  C.A.C.H. is further dedicated to inspiring, uplifting, and motivating other women to reach their full potential.

If you have a daughter in college or a high-school senior headed to college, she needs a copy of this book!

Sometimes, The Dream Chooses Us:  Meet Dr. Nwando Okafor, Leading Woman in Emergency Medicine

What was once child’s play for Dr. Nwando Okafor became a fast reality. She’s gratefully enjoying the daily actualization of the dream career that she imagined having as a little girl growing up in Enugu, Nigeria.  As a child, Dr. Nwando found excitement in playing “doctor” with her dolls by caring for them with items from the First Aid kit that she received as a gift on her 7th birthday. The gift was very important to her.  By tradition, Nigerian families instill strong accountabilities and indigenous values in their children. She’s always known that she would become a doctor; there were no other career options available in her opinion.

Life changed dramatically for her at 15 when her family migrated to the United States. After receiving her diploma from Gardena High School,  Dr. Nwando Okafor graduated, Cum Laude with a BS in Biology from the University of California, Riverside and she subsequently received her MD from UCLA.  She began her medical career working in residency at The University of Chicago Medicine in the ER Department.

Currently, Dr. Okafor is a practicing Emergency Medicine Physician and Chief Medical Officer based in Corpus Christi, Texas.  She’s also committed to the philanthropic work of World Health Advocate, a nonprofit organization that she co-founded with her sister, Dr. Adaeze Okafor-Nwosu. The two are dedicated to closing the healthcare gap among countries worldwide. They travel abroad to Nigeria, Haiti and other poverty-stricken countries to administer free healthcare services.

Kim Burse

I’m excited to embark on new beginnings in the world of JNoS PR. I present the first production of my interview segment; #OnTheLine with Jennifer L. Simpson. I had the opportunity to chat with Creative Director To The Stars, the one and only Ms. Kim Burse!

Although her vision dwells behind from the scenes, her creativity thrives in the spotlight. Kim Burse is responsible for a number of unforgettable televised music performances by artist such as Beyoncé, Destiny’s Child, Monica, Ciara, Jamie Foxx…the list goes on, but her tenure in the music industry is even more impressive.

Kim is most known for her position as creative music director for BET’s Black Girls Rock and the arrangement of other major award show performances. The awesomeness doesn’t cease there; She’s also instrumental to the ongoing success of Jennifer Lopez’s “All I Have Las Vegas Residency.”

I’ve known Kim for a little while now. It was an absolute honor to have her to take time out of her hectic schedule to share this amazing story with me!

Take a look at her biography and resume for the full effect. For now, here’s a quick look inside the career of Creative Music Director Kim Burse.
